Universal lessons embedded in the “Book of Boba Fett”

The Star Wars storyline has been with us a long time. In fact, in May it will be 45 years since the original movie was released in 1977.

And yet, thanks to the abundance of streaming services and consumer thirst for new movies and series, the Star Wars franchise is thriving.

The most recent offshoot is “The Book of Boba Fett,” which came out on Disney+ in December.

Which is cool and all, but what does it have to do with business?

The plot is that Boba, the former bounty hunter for the Empire, is trying to go legit. The man just wants to keep the peace and create a friendly atmosphere for business growth.

Perhaps the best scene in this regard involves the return of The Mandalorian. He’s obtained the Darksaber, a mythical weapon that becomes heavier and heavier if not properly used. The Armorer, a kind of weird blacksmith-turned-philosopher, instructs the Mandalorian.

“You are too weak to fight the Darksaber,” says the Armorer. “It will win if you fight against it. You cannot control it with your strength.”

“I want to try again,” says the Mandalorian.

“Persistence without insight will lead to the same outcome. Your body is strong, but your mind is distracted.”

“I am focused.”

“The blade says otherwise.”

There’s a lot in that exchange that connects with the concepts we teach at FiveFour.

Persistence without insight will lead to the same outcome. Just doing it, doing it, doing it, won’t get you ahead. Real change requires laser focus on the vision, mission and values of an organization. It requires consistent training and improvement.

If your business has stalled, just working harder isn’t the solution. What got you to where you are today, won’t get you to where you want to be next week or next year.

You may think you’re doing all the right things, but in the end it’s the results that matter. If your business isn’t growing, if you aren’t focused, the blade is telling you something.
